Map of the Month:
National Acclaim
The Platting Activity map, from our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division, received national attention at the annual ESRI Conference.
The GIS division uses ESRI software products to create, maintain, analyze and map data. At the recent ESRI user convention, Jack Dangermond, president and founder of ESRI, featured Planning and Development staff member Sona Zechariah’s Platting Activity map in his opening speech.
Thousands of examples of GIS usage internationally are submitted for consideration and this map was chosen as a prime example under the “Managing and Analyzing Land Information” category.
The platting activity map shows concentrations of land development proposals submitted via the Plat Tracker portal, and considered by the Houston Planning Commission. The Commission reviews land classification proposals from land owners in both the City's corporate limits, and the City's extra territorial jurisdiction (ETJ. ) Houston's ETJ includes parts of Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend and Waller Counties.
